Chocolade

Woman and chocolate… a combination not to be ripped apart. Chocolate is a treat. Chocolate comforts, makes you feel good and let’s face it: it’s damn tasty. Men are not that tight with chocolate, but they soon will: some time from now there will be chocolate treats for men too. They will lighten up their sexual desires. To put it simply: a Viagra injection made from chocolate. So more 'I don't like chocolate' excuses.

Kisspeptin is a naturally occurring hormone that releases of other reproductive hormones inside the body. Scientists discovered that the hormone Kisspeptin helps to kickstart puberty and gets young men aroused and in the mood for love. Therefore, it might also help older men who lost some interest in sex to regain some of their sexual feelings.

Professor Waljit Dhillo, the lead author of the research from Imperial College London, said to the Daily Mail: 'Our initial findings are novel and exciting as they indicate that Kisspeptin plays a role in stimulating some of the emotions and responses that lead to sex and reproduction. We are keen to investigate whether Kisspeptin could be an effective treatment for psychosexual disorders, and potentially help countless couples who struggle to conceive.'

Sexual aroused

The study of the Imperial College involved a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. 29 Healthy heterosexual young participated in the research and divided into 2 control groups. They were given either an injection with Kisspeptin or with a placebo. After the injection all participants underwent an MRI scan in the Imanova Centre for Imaging Sciences. All were shown several images: sexual and non-sexual images, neutral and negative images and portraits of happy, fearful and neutral faces. The young men injected with Kisspeptin showed enhanced activity in the structures in the brain and were sexual more aroused than the ones who had a placebo.

The study shows that Kisspeptin both boosts sexual and romantic brain activity and decreases negative moods. As the research is at an early stage, the team of researchers now want to do a follow on study to analyze all the effects of Kisspeptin in a larger group, including women as well as men.
