Women's handbags are dirtier than the average toilet

handbagWe all know that toilet seats, handles and money are really dirty and contaminated with bacteria. But did you know that women’s handbags are contaminated with even more bacteria? A new studyt has revealed that the inside and the handles of your handbag carry more than three times the bacteria on them than a toilet flush.

Also phones, sportsbags and laptop cases are home to sufficient bacteria to pose a risk to human health.

The dirtiest:

  • hand cream - it carries more bacteria than the average toilet seat
  • Leather handbags – they carry the most bacteria because the spongy texture provides 'perfect growing conditions'

Prevention

  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Clean your bag an its contents with antibacterial wipes or gel to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Keep your bag of the floor as much as possible.

The study was carried out by Initial Washroom Hygiene.

Did you know this? Do you have any tips for a clean(er) handbag?

That is WHY I never put my purse down on ANY floor! Even carpeted ones. Not even at friend's houses. Rest rooms and restuarants are the worst. I also only purchase leather purses that can be wiped clean once in a while.
