Recently 8000 Saga Magazine readers aged 50 and over, were interviewed about their sex life. Saga did the same in 2007. The results from both polls show that the over 50s are more sexually active than six years ago and enjoy their sex life more than they did when they were in their 20s and 30s.
Almost three quarters (71 percent) claiming to have a healthy sex life, compared to 65 percent in 2007. And although 82 percent admit that they don’t have as much sex as they used to, more than a quarter of men and a third of women say they enjoy sex more than when they were in their 20s and 30s. About 20 percent have sex at least once a week and 40 percent feel that there is less pressure on them to perform. Also sex becomes separate from ‘reproduction’ and people start seeing it as a ‘fun’ activity. Also they are more open for new experiences to give their sex life a boost.
Katy Bravery, editor of Saga Magazine: “People having more, not less, sex has to be a good thing – perhaps the result of the better health, fitness and general youthfulness that characterise today’s frisky over-50s? Or simply because people are still madly in love with their partners. Anyway, sex over 50 brings a whole new meaning to the lyrics "Another season… for makin' whoopee".'
Do you agree that sex gets better by the years?
